Pipenberg Outdoors
Our Philosophy

Sewn for the Long Trail

Pipenberg Outdoors was founded on a simple realization during a thru-hike of the Pacific Crest Trail: most commercial backpacking equipment is heavier and more complex than it needs to be.

In the world of thru-hiking, every gram saved represents energy conserved, miles gained, and joints protected. But saving weight shouldn't mean sacrificing durability or safety when a storm rolls in at 11,000 feet.

"We don't build gear to sit in a warehouse. We sew tools for hikers who measure their journeys in thousands of miles, not weekends."

From our small mountain cottage workshop, we began designing frameless packs and simple, robust shelters that shed wind and rain without unnecessary buckles, heavy zippers, or redundant pockets. What started as custom gear for friends evolved into a dedicated cottage operation.

Cottage Standards & Sourcing

As a cottage maker, we operate at a human scale. We source the highest quality technical materials available—such as Dyneema® Composite Fabrics (formerly Cuben Fiber), Robic nylon gridstop, and premium European goose down. Every yard of fabric is hand-cut, and every seam is carefully stitched and taped right here in our workshop.

By remaining small, we can rapidly iterate on designs, incorporate custom modifications for clients, and maintain a level of quality control that industrial mass-production simply cannot match.
